Man drinks acid in police stn after 'lover' returns to her family; critical
Barmer/Pali, Feb. 16 -- A 25-year-old man consumed an acid-like substance inside Sumerpur police station in Rajasthan after his alleged lover - a married woman - chose to return home with her parents during questioning in a missing person case, police said.
His condition remains critical as he undergoes treatment in Jodhpur, police added.
The incident unfolded around 5 pm on Saturday when the woman and the youth from Sirohi, said to be involved in a love affair, were brought to the station for questioning, said additional superintendent of police, Chainsingh Mahecha. Family members from both sides were present.
"During proceedings, the woman stated she wished to return with her parents. Police handed her over to her family, who then left the station. The youth appeared visibly distressed. Shortly afterwards, he entered the station bathroom. He emerged to tell personnel he had drunk an acid-like substance from a bottle. His health deteriorated rapidly," Mahecha said.
He received first aid at Sumerpur Hospital before being taken to Bangad Hospital and was later shifted to Jodhpur for advanced treatment, added Mahecha....
