GORAKHPUR, May 5 -- A man from Sant Kabir Nagar district died after a speeding SUV allegedly dragged him for nearly 30 km from that district up to Sahjanwa in Gorakhpur district and CCTV footage from 30 locations on the route confirmed the incident, said police on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Satyendra, 36, a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar district's Rampur Deeh village, they added. Superintendent of police (north), Gorakhpur, Jitendra Kumar, confirmed the incident and said a manhunt was underway to apprehend the absconding driver. The victim's mutilated body was found near Chand Bari village under Sahjanwa police station limits of Gorakhpur district on Saturday morning. The Sahjanwa police lodged an FIR in connection with the incident on Saturday and detained the vehicle owner Ramesh Kumar of Basti. The police are now tracing the absconding driver. The case was registered on the complaint of station house officer, Sahjanwa police station, Jitendra Kumar Singh. As per the police, Satyendra, a labourer, was returning to his village on Friday evening when the mishap occurred. Instead of stopping the vehicle, the SUV driver dragged Satyendra from Kante in Sant Kabir Nagar to Chand Bari village in Gorakhpur district, leading to his death. Satyendra's father, Sachidanand, identified the body on Sunday afternoon. A retired home guard allegedly shot dead his elder son and critically injured his daughter-in-law after an argument over his alcohol addiction in Chautisa village under Barhalganj police station limits in Gorakhpur district on Saturday night. The accused, Hari Yadav, 62, returned home intoxicated around 9:30 PM and began abusing family members, police said. When his elder son Anup Yadav, 38, confronted him and urged him to stop drinking, the argument quickly escalated. In the ensuing chaos, Hari reportedly opened fire using his licensed weapon. Anup suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was rushed to the local community health centre, where doctors declared him brought dead. His wife, Supriya Yadav, 27, who tried to shield her husband during the incident, was shot in the abdomen. She was referred to Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur, where she remains in critical but stable condition. Meanwhile, police have arrested Hari Yadav and seized the weapon used in the crime. Circle officer Manoj Pandey said the violence was rooted in a long-standing family dispute aggravated by the father's habitual alcohol abuse. A speeding four-wheeler rammed into an e-rickshaw carrying jackfruit near Mandar Modh crossing under Puramufti police station limits on Sunday morning, killing the e-rickshaw driver on the spot. The e-rickshaw overturned due to the collision, leading to his death on the spot. Upon receiving information, police reached the scene, took custody of the body, and sent it for postmortem. According to reports, the deceased was identified as Dileep Kumar, 36, son of Jageshwar Prasad and a resident of Janaka.
