Man confesses to killing 2-yr-old stepson seen as 'unwanted burden'
LUCKNOW, July 29 -- A two-year-old boy was allegedly killed by his stepfather in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar after being seen as an 'unwanted burden' in the family, police said on Monday. The accused, 27-year-old Jagannath Saini, was arrested within 24 hours of the incident near Badi Jugauli Tiraha by a team led by station house officer (SHO) Brajesh Chandra Tiwari.
During interrogation, Saini confessed he did not want to raise his second wife's son, Aditya, from her previous marriage and had repeatedly urged her to send the child away.
"His statements revealed deep-seated resentment," said DCP East Shashank Singh, adding that Saini considered the boy a hurdle in the marriage and acted in anger when his demands were ignored. Saini had married Nandini Devi after separating from his first wife, Radha Devi, with whom he had three children. Two of them currently live with him. Aditya's presence in the household had reportedly become a source of constant tension.
Police said that on Sunday, while Nandini was away at work, Saini allegedly lost his temper and beat the toddler severely. The child collapsed on the spot and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
An FIR under Section 103(1) of the BNS was lodged at Gomti Nagar Police Station. "We are also verifying his background for any previous offences. The post-mortem report is awaited and the charge sheet is being prepared," the DCP said. htc...
