Man booked for animal cruelty held in encounter
PRAYAGRAJ, June 15 -- A man booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 was injured in a police encounter in Pratapgarh on Friday night, police said.
As per reports, the police, during a check in search of a suspect at Pateriapur intersection of Lalganj on Friday night, spotted a bike moving suspiciously. When asked to stop, the bike-borne accused opened fire on the police team. Amir Khan, 25, alias Golu, a resident of Madangarh Belha under Lalganj police station jurisdiction, was shot in the leg in retaliatory firing, authorities said.
According to ASP (west) Sanjay Rai, the police team arrested Amir and his accomplice Wasir, a resident of Sardar Ka Purwa under Lalganj police station area. Officials said Amir had four cases registered against him in Lalganj police station -- including two pertaining to animal cruelty, one for forgery and another under Explosives Act.
Police recovered two pistols of .315 bore, three cartridges, two empty bullet shells, one bike and a looted mobile phone besides Rs 700 in cash, they added.
A teenager who had gone to take bath in the Ganga river died due to drowning on Saturday, police said. The body was recovered after about two hours of search with the help of local divers, they added. As per reports, Aditya Verma (15), a resident of Narwar Chowktha village under the Dighiya police outpost under Manda police station, had gone to take bath at Narwar Chowktha Ganga Ghat in the village at 9 am on Saturday. While taking a bath, he drowned in the river. Others present there informed the Manda police about the incident. Sub-inspector, Dighiya police outpost, Abu Talib fished out the body with the help of local divers after two hours of efforts, officials said, adding the body had been sent for the post-mortem examination.
A middle-aged man's blood-soaked body was found near the vegetable market of Kaithi village under the jurisdiction of Karchana police station on Saturday, authorities said, adding family members of the deceased have alleged murder.
Upon being informed, police reached the spot and also pressed the dog squad into service. Later, the body was sent for autopsy. The deceased was identified as Brijesh Kumar (55), who was a resident of Bardha village under Karchan police station area. According to villagers, there were injury marks on the face and other body parts....
