Man bludgeons wife in Varanasi village, arrested
VARANASI, Dec. 23 -- A man was arrested from Mahmudpur village on Monday for murdering his wife on December 19 and dumping her body in an orchard on the outskirts of Kaithor village under Cholapur police station area of Varanasi, police said.
A police officer said that the accused was identified as Pradeep Mishra alias Guddu Mishra, resident of village Sonbarsa under the Chobepur police station area. The muffler, cemented bricks, a mobile phone, and an auto were recovered from the accused.
On Sunday, police received information that the body of a 25-30 year old unidentified woman was lying in village Kaithor, whose head had been crushed with a brick or stone. In this regard, on the basis of written information by village head Mohandaspur, a case was registered under relevant sections in Cholapur police station.
Circle officer Sarnath Vidush Saxena said that upon questioning, accused Pradeep Mishra stated, "I suspected that my wife was having an affair with someone else. She often talked to the person, and would quarrel with me when I objected. For the past few days, my wife had been fighting a lot, and I was very upset. This anger led me to decide to kill my wife."
"On December 19, I had come to my sister's in-laws' house in village Ahirauli, police station Chandwak, district Jaunpur, with my wife. At my sister's house, when we had eaten dinner, my wife started shouting and abusing me loudly and fighting with me. I got very angry and tried to calm her down. Then she asked me to take her out for tea, said the officer. The officer said that the accused revealed that at around 11 pm, he made his wife sit in his auto and went towards Danganj on the pretext of taking her to a tea stall and going back home. At a deserted place on the way to Kaithor, he strangled his wife with a muffler. Then he took his wife's body in his auto and went to Kathor Mohandaspur village in Cholapur.
To conceal her identity, he crushed her face with a brick kept in the auto and threw the brick into the bushes. He dragged his wife's body and hid it in a nearby pile of dry millet. He then went back to his sister's house.
Police said he was produced before the court from where he was sent to judicial custody....
