Meerut, July 10 -- In a case of familial violence rooted in caste bias and monetary disputes, a 28-year-old man was brutally murdered in Nangalabadi village in Baghpat, late Monday night. The victim, Vikas Gurjar, a resident of Bhajan Vihar Colony, was allegedly killed by his brother-in-law Akash, with the help of Akash's wife Nidhi, sister-in-law Ankita, and a neighbour Vijay. The assailants used bricks to smash his head, leading to his death on the spot. The accused were arrested on Wednesday. As per the police investigation, the incident has triggered widespread outrage.Vikas Gurjar, a property dealer, married Aarti Chaudhary, a woman from Nangalabadi village, in a temple ceremony two years ago. Aarti had previously been married to a man from Kirthal village but filed a dowry harassment case four years after her marriage and began living with her parents along with her son. Aarti's second marriage with Vikas was strongly opposed by her brother Akash-an employee with Delhi Jal Board allegedly as the latter belonged to a different caste. The couple had been living in a rented house in Khekra.Four days prior to the incident, Aarti returned to her parental home due to illness. When Kanwarpal, Aarti's father, intervened, Akash assaulted him too. Following this act, enraged Akash, along with Nidhi, Ankita, and neighbour Vijay, attacked Vikas and repeatedly struck him on the head with bricks.
