GORAKHPUR, March 7 -- A 26-year-old man who allegedly beheaded his former wife with an axe on Thursday evening, was found hanging in his room on Friday morning, police officials said. Both incidents took place in Sauraha village, under the jurisdiction of the Brijmanganj police station in Maharajganj district. The man has been identified as Murtaza, who allegedly attacked his former wife, Najma, 23, with an axe following a dispute. The incident occurred when Najma had come to her in-laws' house to collect her belongings nearly six months after their separation by mutual consent. Anirudh Kumar, circle officer, Pharenda, said that a complaint was registered by the mother of the deceased woman, Najma, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police had initiated a search for the accused, who had fled after allegedly committing the crime. However, on Friday morning, he was found hanging in his room.
