Haridwar, Jan. 2 -- A 25-year-old man was allegedly beaten up by his friends following an argument during New Year celebrations in Haridwar on Wednesday night, police said. The incident came to light after a video clip, purportedly showing the assault, was widely circulated on social media. The footage, reportedly recorded by a local resident, shows four men repeatedly attacking another man on a public road after a verbal altercation. According to police, the incident took place near the Bhairav temple in Kankhal. The victim was identified as Anurag alias Bittu (25), a resident of Latowali Colony. Police said the men involved were known to the victim and were celebrating the New Year together when the argument escalated into violence. "The video shows four men beating Anurag after a heated exchange of words. Although we have not received any formal complaint from the victim or his family so far, we have taken cognisance of the incident," said Manohar Singh Bhandari, SHO, Kankhal. The police have started identifying the accused with the help of CCTV footage from the area and manual investigation, the SHO said.
