Meerut, Nov. 26 -- A youth from Chhangakuaan allegedly attacked a booth level officer (BLO) after being denied a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter-list form, in Bareilly district, on Monday. A bystander who attempted to intervene suffered serious injuries. The BLO has lodged a formal complaint at the Quila police station. According to the report filed by BLO Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, he was on duty in Part Number 56 of the City Assembly constituency. At around 5:32 pm, he was filling SIR forms near the Hathiwala Temple in Sahukara when Arpan Garg, a resident of Chhangakuaan, arrived and began hurling abuses. When Agrawal tried to calm him down, Garg allegedly attacked him and threw away official documents. Vishal Bhardwaj, also known as Romi, a resident of Sahukara who was present nearby, attempted to rescue the BLO. Garg then assaulted Bhardwaj with a sharp weapon, inflicting multiple injuries to his eyes and face. Municipal corporator Pranjal Garg and Amit Kumar, the BLO of Part Number 58, rushed to the spot and managed to stop the assault. BLO Rajesh has demanded strict action for the attempted murder of a government employee and for obstructing the voter-list revision campaign. Quila police station house officer Subhash Kumar Singh confirmed that a case has been registered. "The FIR has been registered under BNS section 132 (criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from duty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). Medical examination has been conducted and further investigations are underway. Action will follow based on the findings," he said....
