Barmer, Oct. 24 -- A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping his 21-year-old sister-in-law multiple times over a prolonged period in Pali district, said police, adding that the case came to light after the victim was found to be pregnant during a medical examination. Police added that according to the complaint filed by the victim's mother, the accused allegedly also intimidated her by threatening to circulate private photos and videos of the assault if she were to disclose it. The incident only came to light when the victim was taken to the hospital for severe abdominal pain and doctors confirmed she was pregnant, said police, adding that the report indicates the pregnancy was around two and a half to three months along. The revelation prompted the victim's mother to question her daughter, who finally confessed to the repeated sexual assaults, said police. Following this, the victim's mother immediately filed a report against her son-in-law at the Sadar Police Station. Sadar Police Station SHO, Kapuraram, confirming the incident, said that the victim's mother alleged the abuse began in July 2025. According to the complaint, during a family wedding, the accused allegedly took the victim away on a pretext and raped her at an isolated location. He also allegedly recorded the obscene act and using the photographs and videos to threaten her into silence and coerce her into future instances of abuse. The crime was exposed in the first week of October the victim went to Gujrat along with her mother where she complained of severe abdominal pain, leading to a doctor's consultation where the pregnancy was confirmed.
