Agra, May 15 -- An accused in an alleged rape case involving a minor was arrested after an encounter with Agra police in the early hours of Wednesday. A sub-inspector was injured during the encounter, which took place on the road linking Agra with Firozabad. The case had been registered at the Trans Yamuna Police Station in Agra. Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Hemant Kumar informed that the accused in the case registered at Trans Yamuna Police Station on Tuesday afternoon was wanted. Police teams were formed to apprehend him. "A man riding a motorcycle from Firozabad towards Agra was asked to stop during checking but opened fire on the police with an illegal country-made pistol. In retaliatory firing by the police, the accused was shot in the leg. He was identified as Shareef and has been sent to the hospital for treatment," said ACP Hemant Kumar. "A police sub-inspector was also injured in the encounter and was hospitalised. The accused, a resident of Firozabad, has a criminal past, with a rape case registered against him in Firozabad in 2020," Kumar added. The accused had allegedly raped a 9-year-old girl.
