Man accused of raping minor held after encounter in Sonbhadra
VARANASI, Sept. 4 -- An accused, who was wanted for raping a minor girl, was arrested after an encounter with the police from near Markundi Eco Point area under Robertsganj police station area of Sonbhadra, in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.
A senior police officer said that the accused, Anup Patel, was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000.
On Wednesday morning at around 1.30 am, the police received information that the accused was present near Markundi Eco Point. When the police cordoned off the area, the accused started firing when he saw himself surrounded. In retaliation, he was shot in the leg.
Police recovered a country-made firearm of 315 bore and cartridges from the spot. The injured accused has been admitted to CHC Robertsganj for treatment.
The police officer said that on August 29, a minor girl was raped in a locality under Robertsganj police station area. Based on the complaint by the kin, a case was registered under Section 65(2) (rape) BNS, 5M/6 POCSO (protection of children from the sexual offences) Act and 3(2)5 Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of atrocities) Act in the matter.
The priest of a temple located near Karma police outpost under Ghoorpur police station area here was found hanging on the temple premises on Wednesday morning. The 25-year-old priest allegedly hanged himself by tying a rope to the peepal tree after the aarti and puja in the temple.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination. However the reason for the suicide is not clear yet. Police are interrogating the deceased's family members and villagers.
Karma police outpost in-charge said that prima facie the case looked like suicide. The situation will become clear after the postmortem report is received, he added.
An MTech first-year student of IIT-BHU was found dead in his hostel room on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Anoop Singh Chauhan, in his mid-20s, who was a student of the department of mechanical engineering.
A senior institute official said Chauhan was staying in Room No 113 of Prafull C Ray Hostel. According to fellow students, he studied late into the night and went to bed. The next morning, when he did not wake up, his roommates informed the hostel proctor.
Chief proctor Prof Sanjay Singh reached the hostel and the student was taken to Sir Sundar Lal Hospital, IMS-BHU, where doctors declared him dead. Police were then informed.
Doctors said the prima facie cause of death appeared to be cardiac arrest. The body was later sent for postmortem examination....
