Varanasi, Dec. 15 -- Police arrested a man from Palwal district in Haryana and recovered two Android mobile phones, two keypad phones and Rs.40,240 in cash from his possession, officials said. The accused has been identified as Shoaib, a resident of Nuh district in Haryana, said assistant commissioner of police (ACP), cyber crime, Vidush Saxena. According to police, a complaint was filed by Sushil Kumar Rai in August 2025, alleging that he was duped of Rs.6,04,703 online by unknown cybercriminals after being made to download an APK file through an HP-DT Plus card. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at Rohania police station under Sections 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 66D of the Information Technology Act. Saxena said a special team was constituted to probe the case. "After sustained efforts and searches at multiple locations, the accused was arrested from Palwal district of Haryana," he said. The ACP added that the accused targeted gullible people using deceptive digital methods. Police said the cybercriminals, in connivance with accomplices, sent APK files containing mobile access tools to victims, thereby gaining control of their mobile phones. The defrauded money was transferred to HP-DT Plus digital cards obtained in the names of various individuals. The accused and his associates allegedly contacted truck drivers at different locations and fraudulently credited money to HP Plus digital cards at petrol pumps. They shared the card details and OTPs received through the truck drivers to purchase diesel or petrol.
