Lucknow, Nov. 6 -- A shocking case of betrayal and premeditated murder has come to light in the state capital, where a woman was allegedly killed by her husband and his associates over property and family disputes. A joint team of the Surveillance Unit (DCP North) and Mal Police arrested five accused in connection with the murder of Pooja Devi, whose body was found in a mango orchard in village Bashari on November 3. The victim was identified by her daughter, Suman, through her clothes, footwear and photographs. Following the identification, an FIR under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the prime accused, Raju Gupta, at Mal police station. "Frequent domestic disputes over money and Pooja's objection to her husband meeting his children from his first marriage had escalated tensions. She had also been demanding her share from approximately Rs.10 lakh received after the sale of a plot purchased in her name," said DCP North Gopal Krishna Choudhary. "This demand, coupled with ongoing quarrels, allegedly prompted him to plan her murder," he added. "On October 31, 2025, as per their plan, the accused lured Pooja Devi to a mango orchard in Bashari, Madwana area, where she was strangled to death. Her body was hidden in nearby bushes before the accused fled the scene," said Nawab Ahmed, SHO, Mal. On November 5, acting on electronic surveillance and a tip-off, police arrested all five accused from the Kakarabad underpass.
