Make your produce export-worthy: Shahi
VARANASI, May 24 -- Appealing to farmers to ensure their produce finds a place on plates globally, Uttar Pradesh agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Friday urged them to make their crops export-worthy by adopting modern agricultural practices.
Shahi was speaking at the 'Kharif Productivity Seminar-2025' covering Varanasi, Azamgarh and Mirzapur divisions organised in Varanasi district. Minister of state for agriculture Baldev Singh Aulakh was also present on the occasion.
"We need to continuously increase the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds so that the income of farmers can be increased," said Shahi, who was the chief guest.
Laying emphasis on increasing production of pulses and oilseeds, Shahi said that oil worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore and pulses worth about Rs 35,000 crore are being purchased, which is reducing the income of farmers. "The production of oilseeds and pulses should be increased so that the income of farmers increases," minister Surya Pratap Shahi said.
He asked all the district magistrates to operate purchase centres for pulses and oilseeds. "Four more seed parks will be established in the state, and the Seed Corporation will ensure collection of seeds from the farmers."
"The government's target is to provide 10 lakh quintals of seeds to the farmers. Difficulties being faced by farmers will be resolved through seminars like this," minister Surya Pratap Shahi said.
He also emphasised promoting the cultivation of "Shri Anna" (coarse grain or millets).
Shahi gave away certificates to the beneficiaries of various schemes of the agriculture department and handed over symbolic key of the tractor to a beneficiary farmer producer organisation for setting up a custom hiring centre under the sub-mission on Agriculture Mechanisation Scheme.
Aulakh discussed resolution of the problems of farmers who attended the seminar.
"Our aim is to ensure only good quality seeds are given to farmers," he said, urging them to take advantage of the subsidy available on solar projects.
Agriculture production commissioner Deepak Kumar explained these seminars are aimed at ensuring that the problems of farmers are resolved on priority.
He directed the officers concerned to ensure that crop-cutting work is done properly at the district level so that crop-wise production data can be obtained and 100% fulfilment should be made as per the target achieved under Kisan Credit Card scheme....
