Gorakhpur, Jan. 11 -- A major fire broke out at the divisional GST office near Ramgarh Lake late Friday night, destroying important tax records and causing heavy damage. The blaze started around 1.30 am at the Taramandal office and spread across three floors before firefighters controlled it in nearly two hours. Locals alerted authorities, and police secured the area as a crowd gathered. No staff were present, and no injuries were reported. Computers, furniture, office rooms, and files from over three dozen almirahs were destroyed. District Fire Officer Santosh Kumar Rai said 15 teams battled the fire. A short circuit is suspected.
