LUCKNOW, Sept. 23 -- A function was organised to honour the war hero late Major Asa Ram Tyagi on the occasion of the diamond jubilee of his martyrdom at Lucknow's Tyagi Vihar, an AWHO colony, on Monday. Major Tyagi sacrificed his life in defence of the country during the 1965 Indo-Pak war, in the Battle of Dograi on the Amritsar-Lahore axis. For his exceptional bravery and unwavering spirit, he was posthumously awarded the nation's second-highest honour, the Mahavir Chakra. The AWHO Colony has been proudly named after him. Lieutenant General Aninday Sengupta, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, Army Commander of Central Command, laid a wreath at the bust of Major Tyagi. Amit Kumar Ghosh, principal secretary, health & family welfare also paid floral tributes.
