Mainpuri woman shot at in temple by stalker
AGRA, July 27 -- Four years after she was first attacked by a stalker, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly shot at and critically injured by the accused at a temple in Mainpuri city's Bajaria area on Saturday morning, police said.
The accused, identified as Rahul Diwakar, 32, who works as a private driver and lives in the same locality, fled the spot but police acted swiftly and arrested him.
He also suffered an injury in his leg in the police encounter, they added.
The injured woman, identified as Divyanshi Rathore, a BSc student, was admitted to Saifai Medical College and Hospital in a serious condition.
SP Mainpuri Ganesh Prasad Saha said the woman was under treatment and the matter was being investigated.
As per reports, Divyanshi was offering prayers at the temple when the accused reached there, locked the gate of the temple and allegedly shot thrice at the woman in the stomach.
As a result, she fell in a pool of blood as those around gathered hearing multiple gun shots.
The Mainpuri SP also visited the spot. Later a case was registered at Kotwali police station of Mainpuri on a complaint by the woman's brother.
In 2021 too, the woman was attacked by the accused for which a case was registered.
The police said she was now to be married elsewhere but the accused allegedly objected to it and was forcing her to talk to her....
