PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 17 -- The mahant of Ram-Janaki Temple, located in Badanpur on the banks of Ganga under the Sandipan Ghat police station area of Kaushambi, was repeatedly attacked on the head with a boat oar and a stone over a trivial matter on November 10. After treatment, the mahant reported the matter to the police following which the police filed a case under serious sections and initiated an investigation. As per reports, an ancient temple of Shri Ram and Janaki is located on the banks of Ganga. Mahant Maheshwar Das performs puja there. He lives in a hut on the temple premises. He reported that on November 10, Chhedi Pasi was grazing his goats in the temple's garden. When the mahant objected, the accused started abusing and beating him.
