Agra, Nov. 7 -- Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh State Legislative Assembly, Satish Mahana said that political parties continue pointing towards defects in voter list, but when Special Intensive Revision (SIR), meant to address such issues takes place, the same political parties oppose it. He welcomed the move of the Election Commission to hold SIR in states, including Uttar Pradesh, to rectify shortcomings in voter list. Mahana was in Agra on Thursday to attend a seminar and oath taking ceremony of State Khatri Sabha as the chief guest. He stated that India is a nation with diversity and all communities need to work for the society as a whole. "It is a proud moment for the nation that our women's cricket team has made its mark globally and won the world cup for the nation. It was a pleasant sight to see numerous hoardings of Deepti Sharma, the girl from Agra who excelled in the World Cup and contributed to the team. We need to encourage such talent," said Mahana. Meanwhile, he was critical of political parties opposing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ongoing in different states in compliance with directions from the Election Commission of India. "Time and again, we see political parties pointing out discrepancies in voter lists and seeking rectification. However, when Special Intensive Revision (SIR) aimed at removing these shortcomings take place, the same political parties oppose it," stated Mahana. "SIR is a welcome step and will facilitate the missing names included in the voter list. We applaud the EC for such exercise," he added....
