Maha Minority colleges oppose quotas in FYJC admissions, cite legal violations
MUMBAI, June 7 -- The Maharashtra Association of Minority Educational Institutions has raised strong objections to the state's admission process for First Year Junior College (FYJC) 2025-26, alleging that reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and OBCs are being silently imposed on minority colleges without legal backing.
In a letter to the school education minister Dada Bhuse, the association pointed out that minority institutions have traditionally followed a legally protected seat distribution- 50% for the minority community, 10% in-house, 5% management, and 35% open category. This structure, they said, has been upheld by both the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court.
However, this year's online admission portal displays social and constitutional reservation categories within the open quota of minority colleges-despite the absence of official circular authorising the change.
"This move contradicts court orders," the association stated, citing the 2001 circular that was struck down by the HC.
Admissions are being implemented through the central online system from the year 2025-26....
