Lucknowites begin the day with temple run
Lucknow, Jan. 2 -- Over 10 lakh devotees visited temples, gurudwaras and Jain religious sites across city in a single day on Thursday, stated a press release of department of tourism and culture.
According to temple committees and district administration data, major Hindu temples alone accounted for nearly 7 lakh visitors since the day break. Aliganj New Hanuman Temple recorded the highest turnout, with around 2.5 lakh devotees, followed by Mankameshwar Temple (1.5 lakh), Hanuman Setu and Chandrika Devi Temple (combined over 2 lakh), and other prominent shrines, including Hanumant Dham and Alambagh Hanuman Temple contributing another 1 lakh-plus footfall.
Jain temples across Lucknow reported approximately 80,000 devotees, who participated in Shanti Dhara and Abhishek rituals, while gurudwaras in Yahiyaganj, Alambagh, Indiranagar and Naka Hindola together received nearly 1.2 lakh visitors, supported by continuous langar services throughout the day.
Tourism officials noted that improved infrastructure played a key role in managing crowds.
Transport and local trade data also reflected the impact, with city bus ridership increasing by 22% on New Year Day....
