Lucknow zoo reopens to visitors from today
LUCKNOW, May 29 -- The Lucknow zoo will open its gates for visitors from Thursday, after a closure of two weeks as a precautionary measure, following the deaths of animals in Gorakhpur and Kanpur zoos due to bird flu.
"As per the order of PCCF Wildlife UP, Lucknow Zoo will be open from tomorrow. Visitors can enjoy and learn again in the zoo," said Aditi Sharma, director of the Lucknow zoo. No case of bird flu was reported from Lucknow zoo and all animals are reported healthy.
All zoos and the lion safari were closed since May 14 owing to the death of six animals which tested positive for bird flu. The Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan Zoological Park in Gorakhpur and the Kanpur zoo will remain closed for at least a week more.
"Some samples from Gorakhpur and Kanpur are pending at the laboratory and reports are expected soon. If all samples test negative then a decision to open the remaining zoos will be taken," a senior forest official said....
