Lucknow woman's 'Moringa Army' impresses PM Modi
LUCKNOW, Oct. 13 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken note of a unique initiative led by Lucknow-based Kamini Singh who formed a 'Moringa Army' of over 1,000 women farmers across Uttar Pradesh.
Impressed by her success under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) scheme, the PM invited her to Delhi on Saturday to learn about the model that has empowered women and revitalised the rural economy. "Inspired by CM Yogi Adityanath's vision of self-reliance, Singh organised women through a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) and encouraged them to cultivate moringa (Sahjan)," a government spokesman said "Today, most members are women who not only grow the crop but also handle processing, packaging, and marketing," he added.
Operating under the brand 'Doctor Moringa', the group produces 18 moringa-based products including powder, tablets, tea, handmade soaps, seed oil, biscuits and the popular moringa laddoo.
"With a primary processing unit set up under the AIF scheme, the initiative has generated local employment and significantly raised women's income. It now stands as a model of CM Yogi's efforts to empower daughters from economically weaker backgrounds towards self-reliant, dignified lives," the spokesman said....
