LUCKNOW, Aug. 15 -- Almost after 17 years of hard work on the field, former national level sprinter Nupur Singh on Thursday, qualified as 'bronze level' world athletics referee and also became the first one from the state capital to achieve this honour. This was announced on Thursday by the World Athletics president Sebastian Coe by issuing the qualification certificate to Singh, who joins the elite referees group of India as the fifth one from Uttar Pradesh. Meerut's Anu Kumar was also qualified as bronze level referee. "It's really a proud moment for me as I missed the qualifying mark of 70 percent by a whisker in the last exam as I could score 69.1 percent then. But this time, I did my best to cross over the barrier,' said Singh, a high scale group officer in the Postal Department here. "This success has encouraged me to do much better next time as I am looking for two other grades like silver and gold in future," said Singh, who had a gold medal in 100m hurdles during her playing days. Singh, 56, has so far officiated in many national and international level athletics events, including 2010 Commonwealth Games and Asian Athletics Championship. A Super League match of the District Football League on Thursday witnessed a double hattrick as hosts Lucknow Falcon Club routed Satson Club 6-0, at the Ekana Football Stadium here. Lucknow Falcons dominated the proceedings from the very start and didn't allow rivals to free their arms. Sabik scored his first goal in the 15th minute before striking two more in the 17th, and 20th minutes, respectively. He was well supported by Sushant, who scored in the 39th, 42nd,and 46th minutes. The tennis fraternity of Lucknow on Thursday condoled the sudden demise of NIS tennis coach at the Vijayant Khand Stadium, Vijay Pathak, who passed away at a government hospital in the evening. Pathak, 47, is survived by his wife and a son. A talented coach Pathak even as an ad hoc coach, produced many national level medallists both in tennis and soft tennis and his death is now considered a big loss to the game....
