Lucknow pharmacies checked for 'contaminated' cough syrup
Lucknow, Oct. 7 -- In view of the deaths of 17 children allegedly after consuming a contaminated cough syrup in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, health authorities in Uttar Pradesh launched a coordinated inspection of medical stores in Lucknow on Monday.
Acting on the directives issued by the district magistrate and the assistant commissioner (Drugs) at the UP Food Safety and Drug Administration headquarters, a team conducted surprise inspections at pharmacies located near key hospitals in the city.
Raids were carried out at Awadh Pharmacy, Purvanchal Medical and Mohan Medicals near Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Gomti Nagar, and Om Medicals and Beer Medical Store near Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital.
The inspections were jointly conducted by Drug Inspectors Sandesh Maurya and Vivek Kumar of Lucknow.
Authorities confirmed that the syrup from the specified batch in question was not found in stock or for sale at any of the inspected outlets....
