Lucknow, Sept. 2 -- The Uttar Pradesh Bed & Breakfast and Homestay Policy 2025 is receiving an enthusiastic response in the state capital, with hundreds stepping forward to register their homes as homestay accommodations, officials said. They expect that around 800 homestays could soon become operational in Lucknow. Minister of tourism and culture Jaiveer Singh said the rising interest from citizens reflected the policy's success in addressing both tourism needs and local economic development. He noted that the initiative enables residents to open up part of their homes to guests, providing tourists with not just a place to stay, but an opportunity to experience Indian hospitality and culture more intimately. "Our goal is to solve the accommodation crunch during busy travel periods while giving local families a chance to benefit economically. Homestays provide affordability and warmth, which hotels often can't match," Singh said. The policy allows homeowners to register between one and six rooms, with up to 12 beds, for homestay purposes. Residents can rent out two-thirds of their home while continuing to live on the premises, preserving the essence of a shared space. The registration process is managed at the district level by committees led by the district magistrate and superintendent of police to ensure transparency and efficiency.
