Lucknow may get moderate rain today
LUCKNOW, Aug. 24 -- There is a strong possibility of moderate rain in the state capital Lucknow on August 24 along with heavy rain at some places in the late evening/night," the weathermen has predicted.
Light to moderate rain is likely over many or most of the areas of the state in the next 3 or 4 days, with heavy rain at some places from August 23 to 25, after which the intensity and regional distribution of rain in the state will start decreasing.
Due to the monsoon trough returning to its normal position and other favourable and geophysical conditions and in view of the possible convergence of moist winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea in the state, an increase in monsoon activity is on the cards, the weatherman said.The forecast for Lucknow for the next 24 hours is generally cloudy sky, becoming overcast towards evening/night with a few spells of moderate to intense rain/thundershower. The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 31 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. The IMD has issued a warning that heavy rain is likely at isolated places towards evening/night. The state forecast rain/thundershower likely at many places in West UP and at most places in East UP. There is a warning of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning at isolated places over the state. Heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over the state.

Overall UP's rain deficit is pegged at 1%. The state has received 536.8 mm rain against normal rainfall 540.7 mm. West UP received 581.1 mm rain against normal 494.4 mm, 18% excess rainfall in this season. East UP received 505.9 mm against normal 573.7 mm, 12% deficit.
Varanasi recorded highest rainfall 161.8 mm in UP, the second highest in Aug after 1987
During the last 24 hours till 08:30 am on Saturday, Babatpur in Varanasi recorded the highest rainfall of 161.8 mm in the state, which is the second highest in August after 1987 (165 mm) in the observation history of Babatpur since 1952, whereas it is the fourth highest rainfall in a day in the month of August in the observation history (1889-2025) of Varanasi district {1940-321.6mm(BHU), 2008-233.6mm(BHU), 1987-165mm(Babatpur Airport)}....
