LUCKNOW, Sept. 29 -- In a sophisticated cyber scam in Saadatganj, Lucknow, a local man was duped of Rs 8 lakh by fraudsters who impersonated a Delhi Police inspector. The victim, Mahmood Alam Ansari of Momin Nagar's Newati Tola, was told that he was involved in suspicious activities and that an investigation was underway under orders from the Supreme Court. According to police sources, the scammers first sent fake documents to Mahmood's mobile, labelling him a suspect, and later deleted the files. They also warned him over a WhatsApp call that disclosing the conversation could lead to his arrest for leaking information. Believing the fraudsters' claims, Mahmood transferred the money to them. Saadatganj police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
