LUCKNOW, Dec. 27 -- Local outfits Lucknow Hostel and Sports College Lucknow notched up convincing wins on the opening day of the State Junior Boys' Hockey Tournament, at the Padma Shri Mohammad Shahid Hockey Stadium here on Friday. Lucknow Hostel defeated Agra Division 6-0, whereas Sports College Lucknow trounced Meerut Division 7-0. In other matches of the day, Sports Hostel Varanasi defeated Aligarh 2-0, Basti defeated Azamgarh 4-0, Kanpur held Bareilly for a 1-1 draw, Lucknow defeated Devipatan 5-0 and Sports Hostel Jhansi defeated Ayodhya 6-1. It was an easy day for top girls players in the under-16 singles of the UP State Tennis Tournament here on Friday. In the quarterfinals, Siddhi Singh beat Shivanya gautam 5-0, Geetika Saraswati beat Pavnee Shukla 5-1, Sanskriti Gautam beat Aaliya Nirwan 5-0 and Anika Srivastava defeated Anaya Sen 5-0. In the boys under-18 singles quarterfinals, Anurudh Kumar beat Abhijeet Singh 6-4, Anuj Kumar beat Geetansh Arora 5-1, Vivek Vishwakarma beat Ansh Saxena 5-0 and Virat Singh beat Harsh Kumar 5-2. The four-day trials of Lucknow Premier League were off to a flying start with the participation of 300 players on Day One, at the Sports Galaxy Academy here on Friday. More than 1,000 cricketers are expected to participate in the trials. On Friday, an impressive lot of 300 players turned up, showcasing their skills in front of scouts, franchise representatives, and selectors from Cricket Association Lucknow. The energy was electric - talent was visible everywhere. The LPL's players auction is slated for the latter half of January, with the league set to thrill fans with electrifying T20 action throughout March 2026.
