Lucknow Falcons fail to enter final once again
LUCKNOW, Sept. 5 -- For the third successive time, local outfits Lucknow Falcons on Thursday failed to make it to the final of the UPTwenty20 League, went down fighting to defending champions Meerut Mavericks by 19 runs, at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Now, they take on former champions Kashi Rudras in the final on Saturday.
Despite having control over the proceedings till the halfway mark while chasing 144 to win, the Falcons lost the plot in the second half of their batting and could 124/8 in 20 overs. Full marks to Meerut Mavericks bowlers, especially pacers Vijay Kumar (2/17) and Kartik Tyagi (3/29), who turned the table on local outfits.
The Falcons lost five wickets in a gap of just 12 runs. Opener Aaradhya Yadav (54, 50, 3x4, 2x6) and Saif (21, 20b, 3x4) stitched together 38 runs for the second wicket. In fact, things never looked in control for the Meerut Mavericks from the very start of the Qualifier Two as they didn't have their star batter and skipper Rinku Singh in the Playing XI, and two other key batters including stand-in skipper Madhav Kaushik and stylish Swastik Chikara chose to play poor shots even while batting first after winning the toss.
