LUACTA protests move to curb UG teachers' PhD supervision rights
LUCKNOW, Aug. 13 -- Lucknow University Associated Colleges Teachers' Association (LUACTA) has launched an agitation against the university's decision to strip undergraduate-level teachers of research supervision rights, as proposed in the Academic Council meeting on August 8.
"We demand that the university reviews this arbitrary decision and permits all UG teachers to supervise PhD students," said LUACTA chief Manoj Pandey. Despite two rounds of talks with vice-chancellor Prof Manuka Khanna, negotiations failed.
Prof Khanna maintains that the move is only a proposal in line with UGC guidelines and still requires approval from the Executive Council, the state government, and finally the governor.
LUACTA, however, called this logic unacceptable and has scheduled a meeting on August 13 to decide further action.htc...
