LU scholars flag research-related issues, get V-C's assurance
LUCKNOW, Feb. 15 -- Research scholars at the Lucknow University have complained about "not receiving access to several research journals and platforms due to lack of institutional email id and seating arrangements for them".
They claimed that the problems are hindering their studies.
While research continues to be an important area of concern for higher education institutions, the research scholars concerned have urged for immediate interference to solve the issue. Vice chancellor Prof JP Saini said he has already asked the authorities to create official email IDs of not just research scholars but of all students.
Aradhana Pandey, a research scholar in the sociology department, said lack of institutional mail ID and access to various research platforms makes it even more difficult to connect with scholars at other higher education institutions.
"We are not even able to showcase our research online like the research scholars at Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University generally do. Besides, we don't have remote access to cyber library and journals like APW, Sage, Springer etc," Pandey claimed.
Pratyush Pandey, a research scholar in the English department, said: "The library needs monthly or quarterly updates with software and books must be added from time to time."
"Besides, the process of uploading papers for junior and senior research fellowship needs to be simplified and made online. The data is uploaded online after signatures from supervisor, dean, head of department and dean, student welfare. It makes the process complicated," Pandey claimed.
Vishal Singh, a student leader, said common halls should be available in all departments. "Even departments should have individual subscriptions of magazines, books and newspapers along with research journals," he added.
Vice chancellor Prof JP Saini said he has already asked the authorities to create official email IDs of not just research scholars but of all students. "Over 500 computers are present in the cyber library and each department has been instructed to ask research scholars to make optimum use of research subscriptions," he added.
"Research scholars can now even submit their research six months in advance and the entrance examination for PhD will be conducted twice a year which would increase the number of research scholars in the university," the VC said.
"The focus is on creating the university research oriented and working on sustainable development goals. We are also organising a workshop for 27 institutions applying for NIRF.
