Lucknow, July 30 -- Students of the Lucknow University have protested against the hike in the hostel fee by submitting a memorandum to the dean, students' welfare, in the last few days. They have highlighted the Rs 2,000 hike in the Hostel Mess Caution Money per semester and the inclusion of fine for various aspects including dirty washrooms, eating or making noise in the library and using drinking water for other purposes. Students say when they have already been submitting a hefty amount for the hostel another hike in the hostel fee is an added burden on them. National Students Union of India (NSUI)'s Vishal Singh said, "Many students who study in a public university don't have a lot of resources. So, this is an additional burden on them. We have submitted a memorandum to the DSW and we have also planned a protest for it." "The rules being imposed on women students in the hostel, including fine on unclean washrooms, fine on being found eating or making noise in the library, using drinking water for other purposes among others," said Singh. Samajwadi Chatrasabha will also protest at the DSW office on Wednesday. DSW VK Sharma said that the food tender of three years ended this year. "The amount for food tender has been increased and the addition of the mess caution money will only be liable when a student breaks anything in the hostel mess including - plates, cups or misplaces spoons else it will be refunded when they leave the hostel," said Sharma....
