Lucknow, July 13 -- After the New Education Policy was implemented in 2020 by Lucknow University, the first batch to complete a four-year bachelor programme was in 2024. As the academic year ends, not even one student turned up to get admission in the four-year bachelor courses in the colleges affiliated to Lucknow University, said Lucknow University Associated Colleges Teachers' Association (LUACTA) Manoj Pandey. He said the students today are more concerned about their employability after the completion of a course. "After the completion of a three-year course, a student gets an opportunity to appear in competitive examinations or even go ahead to join professional courses. Those interested in studying further also find it convenient to complete post-graduation for two years as the time duration for both four-year Bachelor and one year Master and Three-year Bachelor and two-year Master programmes is the same," said Pandey. Some also find that the move of launching four-year degree courses is not relevant as it has not made students with a four-year degree eligible for jobs in the same way as a student with a three year bachelor and two-year Master's degree. Spokesperson Shia PG College, Pradeep Sharma, also said that there is a doubt among students regarding the four-year bachelor courses. "The students could not find the scope and advantages of the four-year bachelor courses which is one of the main reasons these courses are not finding many takers in the city," said Sharma. Principal Jai Narain Misra PG College (JNPG), Vinod Chandra, said that these courses are not popular among students because the country lacks a research-conducive atmosphere. "It is need of the hour that we create a research-conducive atmosphere in all the educational institutions and promote research by providing more grants and fellowships for those in research so that a student interested in research can find career growth opportunities after studying in a four-year bachelor programme," said Chandra. Principal Amiruddaula Islamia Degree College, Dilshad Ahmad Ansari, said these courses lack clarity. "The students are confused whether to opt for three years or four-year bachelor courses after securing more than 75% marks in the sixth semester because they can directly go ahead and opt for competitive examination or securing admission in professional courses," said Ansari....
