LUCKNOW, Dec. 15 -- Police on Sunday arrested Akash Kashyap, the prime accused who allegedly shot at his girlfriend, a stage dancer, in the Sadrauna area under Para police station limits on Thursday evening, officials said. His maternal cousin Shivam Kashyap, who was present during the crime, was also taken into custody, they added. Police said they recovered the illegal pistol used in the shooting, three live cartridges, one empty shell, and an SUV in which the accused travelled to the victim's residence. Para inspector Suresh Singh said that acting on specific inputs, a team set up a barricade on the Ayodhya-Gorakhpur highway and arrested Kashyap, a resident of Sarojini Nagar, along with Shivam Kashyap, a resident of Sohramau in Unnao. During interrogation, Akash allegedly confessed to the crime and told police that after the shooting, he fled with Shivam to Ayodhya and later travelled to Ballia in an attempt to evade arrest. According to police, Akash and the woman had been in a relationship for a year and a half. He was unhappy with her profession as a dancer and repeatedly pressured her to quit performing. The woman opposed his demands, leading to frequent arguments. A six-year-old boy was critically injured after being hit by a speeding car in the Krishna Nagar area here on Sunday morning, police said.
