Loudspeakers removed from three mosques in Rudrapur
Rudrapur, Jan. 9 -- The Rudrapur Municipal Corporation (RMC) removed loudspeakers from three mosques in the city following complaints of excessive noise levels, officials said on Thursday, adding that the action was part of an ongoing campaign against sound pollution.
According to RMC officials, several complaints had been received from residents of areas surrounding the mosques located in Seer Gontiyan, Khera and Paharganj colonies, alleging that loudspeakers were being used at high volumes, causing inconvenience to the public. Notices were served on the concerned mosque management committees, asking them to either lower the volume or remove the loudspeakers. However, officials said the directives were not complied with.
RMC mayor Vikas Sharma said the civic body was left with no option but to act.
"We had been receiving repeated complaints regarding noise pollution caused by loudspeakers at mosques. Notices were served on the committees concerned, but no heed was paid. Following this, our staff, with the cooperation of the police, removed loudspeakers from three mosques on Wednesday," Sharma said. htc...
