LUCKNOW, July 12 -- Loreto Convent Intermediate College, in partnership with its alumnae association, hosted its maiden Model United Nations (MUN) conference on Friday. More than 450 students from over 20 schools of Lucknow are participating in the two-day event. Dr Soniya Nityanand, vice-chancellor, King George's Medical University (KGMU) and an alumna of the school, was the chief guest. "The values of loyalty, honesty, and truth instilled by Loreto guided me as the only woman from a third-world country in global medical circles," said Dr Nityanand. The conference featured eight committees. Delegates across all committees demonstrated strong research and negotiation skills. Drug trafficking across West Asia was the agenda for discussions in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) committee. Meanwhile, gender-based violence within conflict zones was deliberated in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) committee. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) committee focused on regulating decentralised finance in developing economies. The Joint Crisis Committee (JCC) revisited the conquest of Mewar through two war cabinets - the Mughals and the Kingdom of Mewar. After 2026 constituency delimitation and its political and constitutional complexities formed the central debate within the Lok Sabha Committee. The White House Committee assessed an unusual shift in global power dynamics following the USA's exit from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and an alliance with Russia and China.
