Lois Lane walks among us: rachel brosnahan
India, July 6 -- Rachel Brosnahan is stepping into one of pop culture's most iconic roles - Lois Lane - in the upcoming film Superman. Sharing her excitement, the Emmy-winning The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star admits she was attracted by the agency and urgency of her character.
"(These characters) show us it might be possible that there are aliens with superpowers who want to join humanity and other superheroes who can save us. But also, there are everyday superheroes who walk among us. As a journalist, Lois is one of those people," she says.
Rachel (34) sees Lois as a beacon of hope and strength not just for Metropolis - the fictional town where Superman is set - but for the real world, too: "These stories encourage us to find the courage to explore what it means to be human. In some ways, Metropolis is so far from the world we live in; and in other ways, it isn't at all... Characters like Lois, Jimmy, the Daily Planet crew, and even Lex Luthor, are the audience's way into this universe."
Does she feel the weight of the legacy? "The minute we start thinking about the responsibility too much, we might be crushed under the pressure... These characters have been portrayed in animation, been drawn by so many brilliant artists, and have been played by other actors - we know that we're standing on the shoulders of giants," she says, adding, "But we feel a responsibility to the fans who have loved these for generations. At some point, we trust our writer and director, and do our best."
To her Indian fans, Rachel sends her love. "We talked about Bollywood films all the time while working on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. We drew inspiration from the colour and the movement. I'd be honoured to work in an Indian film, it would be a dream," she ends....
