Loco pilot averts mishap after spotting cement sleepers on tracks
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 18 -- A major train accident was averted after the loco pilot of Nauchandi Express applied emergency brakes on noticing cement sleepers kept on the railway track on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred between Pariyawan and Arkha railway stations in the Nawabganj police station area when the train was on its way from Prayagraj to Saharanpur .The driver's presence of mind averted the accident.
Despite applying brakes, the sleepers (cement structure to support the track) kept on the track collided with the engine and got thrown away from the track. The loco pilot alerted the control room about the incident after which senior railway officials arrived at the scene and carried out a preliminary inspection before lodging a police complaint. Unchahar RPF inspector Hemant Kumar Yadav has filed a complaint with the Nawabganj police.
The sleepers were placed on the railway line between poles 14 and 15, just before Arkha railway station under Nawabganj police station area.
Based on the complaint filed by RPF Inspector Hemant Kumar Yadav, the police have filed a report against unknown persons. SHO of Nawabganj police station Santosh Singh said that this was the work of some anti-social elements and they were being identified....
