Locals assault police team called in to help drive in Pratapgarh
PRAYAGRAJ, May 29 -- Police personnel who had arrived to help the municipal corporation remove encroachments, were beaten up by local residents, who were protesting against the encroachment drive. The incident occurred in Sagara ward under Kotwali Nagar police station area in Pratapgarh on Wednesday afternoon.
The municipal team had arrived to remove encroachments during the construction of a drain in the city. Unable to complete the task owing to stiff resistance by local residents, the workers called in the police. Protesting residents assaulted the police personnel and tore the uniform of the Civil Lines police outpost in-charge Rajesh Rai.
On receiving information about the incident, police took a woman into custody.
On the complaint of the corporation's executive officer, a case has been registered against a woman and her two sons for assault on the police team and obstruction in government work. The drain is being constructed in the lane connecting Sagara in front of the poultry farm under Kotwali Nagar police station area....
