Local markets buzz as vendors bank on Eid sales
India, March 19 -- As the festive season of Eid approaches, local markets across the city are experiencing a significant surge in foot traffic, with vendors reporting booming sales. The demand is further amplified by the upcoming wedding season, turning the last-minute Eid rush into a big profitable window for local businesses.
"These festivals help us find a large number of buyers at the same time. This increases our margin, and we are able to save some for a rainy day. I will be able to clear more than half of my new stock by Eid," says a makeshift vendor who deals in women's and kids' apparel at Chowk.
Irshad Nagpuriwala, a seller of mojari and flip-flops at Aminabad market, says, "With Eid nearing, our sales definitely go up. The number of buyers arriving post-Iftaar is huge, so I don't want to close my shop and miss the sales. After apparel, it's shoes and slippers that are in high demand, so we all want to make the most of it and sell the maximum number of items we have on our shelves."
Mukesh Kumar, who runs a cosmetic and bangle shop in Gadbad Jhala Market, adds, "Festivals like this are synonymous with a high volume of shopping. This year, cosmetic sales are way ahead of last year. With so many new entrants, youngsters are crazy about natural beauty products, and it's difficult to match their demands for items ranging from oil tints to aloe vera, serum-based compacts, and more. As far as bangle sales are concerned, we have just restocked for Chand Raat, as that is the D-day for the buyers."
Kisa Khan and her mother have been on a shopping spree as they have a wedding for her elder brother slated for April this year, right after Eid. "We need to buy jewellery, shoes, and apparel anyway, and Eid is the best time to do it. Firstly, the discounts are great, and a new range of designs is freshly stocked, so it's a good time to buy," she adds....
