LUCKNOW, Sept. 21 -- Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) plans to introduce smart and user-friendly parking technology across the city, municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said on Saturday. The move comes as LMC prepares to hand over 13 parking facilities, including those located in multi-storey buildings, to private entities for which it has invited bids. The second phase would likely focus on bidding out 75 street parking lots. Officials said the smart parking plan was designed to reduce congestion. "The new system is expected to allow digital payments, track available slots, and maintain real-time records of vehicle movement," they said. Zone-1 in-charge Om Prakash Singh said that smart parking will be limited to LMC-owned facilities. He said the system would help monitor vehicle entry, digitise operations, and save time for commuters. Kumar also announced a change in the tendering process aimed at encouraging wider participation. "This time, bidders for LMC-owned parkings would deposit 50% of the tendering amount while applying. If they win the contract, it will be adjusted in the final payment, and if not, the amounts will be refunded," he said.
