LMC to plant over 1.37L saplings on July 9
LUCKNOW, July 7 -- : The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will plant 1,37,312 saplings across the city on July 9 as part of the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" plantation campaign.
The campaign was discussed during a state-level webinar in which chief minister Yogi Adityanath addressed public representatives, including members of local bodies across Uttar Pradesh.
Mayor Sushma Kharakwal, municipal corporators, additional municipal commissioner Arvind Kumar Rao, chief tax assessment officer Ashok Singh and other senior officials attended the webinar at the LMC headquarters and finalized the blueprint for the citywide plantation effort.
The mayor called the campaign a "historic step" towards a greener future and urged residents of Lucknow to plant at least one tree in their mother's name.
Under the planned targets, 40,598 saplings will be planted in municipal parks, 37,600 in Rasoolpur Kayasth (Part-C), 44,800 in Rasoolpur Kayasth (Part-D), and 14,314 at Barawan Kala village.
Garden superintendent Gangaram Gautam said the drive will include a wide range of species such as mango, neem, amla, peepal, jamun, sindoor bel, parijat, rudraksha, arjun, and banyan, selected for their environmental benefits.
LMC has directed zonal officers to ensure the success of the drive by involving local citizens, NGOs, schools, and social organisations.
Rao added that all saplings will be geo-tagged and monitored regularly to ensure their survival and growth.
He said this plantation drive will not only boost green cover, but also set a strong example for environmental awareness and citizen-led action in urban areas....
