LMC to install 2,000 new streetlights by next month
LUCKNOW, Jan. 9 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has decided to install around 2,000 new streetlights by February this year to address the long-pending problem of dysfunctional and missing lights across several parts of the city, with a major focus on Gomti Nagar Extension. The move follows months of surveys and repeated complaints from residents over dark roads and unsafe neighbourhoods.
After conducting a detailed assessment earlier in 2025, LMC identified multiple locations where streetlight poles were already in place but the lighting apparatus was either missing or dysfunctional. Based on the findings, the civic body prepared a fresh installation plan.
Chief engineer (mechanical and electrical) of LMC, Manoj Prabhat, said the corporation has also sought additional manpower to speed up installation and repair work. He confirmed that an extra demand for staff has been sent to the municipal commissioner, particularly for Gomti Nagar Extension, where the problem remains acute.
