LUCKNOW, Oct. 23 -- Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has launched a massive cleanliness and inspection drive of the Gomti's banks and ghats ahead of the Chhath Puja celebrations in the city, stated an LMC note on Wednesday. A high-level team of officials led by the additional municipal commissioner and the chief engineer inspected key Gomti ghats in the city on Wednesday, including Laxman Mela Ground, Mankameshwar Ghat, Jhulelal Park Ghat, Ranipur Road Ghat, Scooter India Square Gauri Chhath Puja Sthal, Sajiya Ghat, Kudia Ghat, and others. Officials reviewed the status of cleanliness, lighting, barricading, traffic, and safety arrangements. The civic body has deployed one skimmer machine and 15 GPS-equipped boats for real-time monitoring and continuous cleaning. The team found floating garbage at some locations and directed staff to ensure regular removal. Instructions were issued to replace temporary green nets set up along the banks with permanent iron barriers to prevent waste from entering the river. The corporation will place offering 'urns' (kalash) along both banks for safe disposal of flowers and puja items.
