LUCKNOW, Dec. 11 -- Residents of the Alambagh area of the state capital are likely to receive relief, as the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Wednesday launched a major drainage project in the area, after years of facing severe waterlogging-like issues during the monsoon season. Mayor Sushma Kharakwal laid the foundation stone for a 950-metre drain to be built from Basant Tower to Alambagh crossing at a cost of Rs 1.48 crore. Residents said the project would likely address a long-pending civic demand that has affected daily life, business activity, and road safety. Local people, especially shopkeepers and daily commuters, said they struggle every monsoon when knee-deep water blocks access to homes and markets. Many expressed hope that the new drain will prevent financial losses and health hazards caused by stagnant water. A large number of citizens and traders attended the ceremony. During the event, the mayor shared chief minister Yogi Adityanath's message urging citizens to stay alert regarding illegal immigrants and verify the identity of anyone employed for domestic or commercial work.
