LUCKNOW, Aug. 30 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Friday laid the foundation stone for open gyms in 100 parks across the city. The project, to be developed at a cost of Rs 12.5 crore under the CSR fund of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), was launched at a grand ceremony held in the park opposite the LMC headquarters in Lalbagh, a release issued by the Corporation on Friday, read. The programme was chaired by mayor Sushma Kharkwal in the presence of deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, energy and urban development minister AK Sharma, and member of Parliament Sudhanshu Trivedi as chief guests. Addressing the gathering, Sudhanshu Trivedi said, "With open gyms in neighbourhood parks, citizens will be able to adopt healthier lifestyles without barriers," he said. Energy and urban development minister AK Sharma called the initiative a significant contribution to the government's 'Fit India Movement'. Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak thanked HAL for funding the project and praised LMC for implementing it. "This is a people-centric initiative that will benefit thousands of families in the city," he said. In her address, mayor Sushma Kharkwal said, "It is a proud moment that 100 parks in our city are now getting open gyms. These facilities will especially benefit women, children, and senior citizens, as they can exercise close to their homes," she said.
