LUCKNOW, Feb. 18 -- Stepping up its crackdown on banned plastic and public littering, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) carried out coordinated raids across several areas in state capital on Tuesday, imposing spot fines and warning violators of stricter action in the coming days. In the Purnia Tiraha to Kendriya Bhawan stretch (Zone-03), nine people were fined a total of Rs.10,500 for littering in public places. Seven challans were issued for possession of banned polythene, leading to penalties amounting to Rs.10,000. Additionally, 25 shopkeepers selling tobacco products without valid licences were collectively fined Rs.5,000. Overall, 41 challans were issued in the zone, and Rs.25,500 was deposited into the municipal treasury. Officials added that shopkeepers were also sensitised about licensing regulations and restrictions on single-use plastic during the enforcement drive. In a parallel drive, civic officials carried out inspections in areas around Sushant Golf City (Zone-08), including commercial establishments near Central Hotel. Several shops and business units were found flouting cleanliness norms and violating restrictions on banned plastic. During the inspection, on-the-spot fines totalling Rs.41,000 were imposed. Officials reiterated that the use, transportation, storage, or sale of banned plastic materials would continue to attract strict penalties. Led by zonal sanitary officers, along with sanitation inspectors and enforcement teams, the drive was part of an ongoing anti-plastic and cleanliness campaign across the city. Civic authorities said the enforcement action will continue in the coming weeks to ensure compliance and bolster Lucknow's broader cleanliness objectives....
