LMC fast-tracks animal birth control projects
	
		
				LUCKNOW, Oct. 30 -- In response to the Supreme Court's recent observations on stray dog management, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has launched an intensified drive to regulate the city's stray animal population. Civic teams have been directed to expedite ongoing animal birth control (ABC) projects and enhance sterilisation capacity.
LMC chief Gaurav Kumar on Wednesday inspected the under-construction ABC training centre at Jarhara, instructing officials to double the pace of sterilisation and complete all related works within the set timeline.
Kumar reviewed the quality and progress of civil construction, emphasising adherence to prescribed standards and transparency to avoid complaints. He said animal birth control initiatives have now become one of the corporation's top civic priorities.
"Effective and scientific management of stray animals is crucial for public safety and urban hygiene," Kumar said, adding that daily monitoring of sterilisation reports will be mandatory and surgery targets will be increased.
He also visited the ABC facility being developed at Amausi by the Central and Design Services (C&DS) agency and instructed officials to accelerate the work while maintaining quality.
Kumar said the civic body is working to establish ABC centres across the city as part of a long-term solution to the stray animal issue, which he said would benefit both residents and the environment.
The commissioner later inspected Radha Upvan Gaushala in Jarhara on the occasion of Gopashtami and directed the construction of additional tin sheds to ensure proper shelter for cattle.
